PW and Sunke: a global weld control specialist

The co-operation between PW and Sunke has created a new global weld control specialist, able to offer the whole range from small, simple AC timers for standard spot welding machines, to 6000A Medium Frequency AC systems, all manufactured under TUV audited ISO9001 standards.

Based in Tianjin, Sunke is probably the largest weld control manufacturer in China, selling upwards of 20,000 units every year, and supplying many of the leading automotive and aerospace users. Sunke also sells widely in the Far East, particularly in the very active Korean automotive market.

Much of the technology advancement in recent years has been driven by the automotive industry. Warranties on cars are longer and longer, safety of the passenger shell is crucial and the materials used are more complex. A modern car will use a variety of materials, including zinc coated steels and ultra high strength materials, making huge demands on the largely automated spot welding processes.

Able to offer medium frequency, unusually for most manufacturers both DC and the more recent AC, as well as fully adaptive systems, Sunke’s range can deal efficiently with all material combinations.

MFAC technology, developed by Sunke from 2008 onwards, offers real advantages when welding ultra high strength steels, and increases electrode life when welding aluminium, a material used ever more widely in modern, lightweight cars, and of course in aerospace. It is very cost effective, as it uses standard AC transformers, with no high cost transformer requiring diode replacement during its life.

Financially Sunke is a very solid publicly quoted company, having floated on the Chinese small companies market in 2016.
